Treatment for Osteoporosis

Posted by admin On January - 15 - 2010

Osteoporosis is the thinning and weakening of the bones to such an extent that the bones develop pores and cracks resulting in breakages. Bones getting weaker as aging is a natural phenomenon but they must be strong enough to withstand one’s own body weight. Treating the bones to become stronger and helping in their growth are often few ways in treating the Osteoporosis bone disease.

Treatment is very much important as it prevents breaking of the bones. The thickness of the bones is maintained and increased on few occasions. This helps in maintaining one’s ability to properly function physically and few treatments help in getting relief from the pain that might be caused due to the fractures and other small cracks developed.

There are various treatments depending on the amount of the disease one is infected with. If the person is suffering from mild Osteoporosis and is still in the initial stages of the disease, many doctors recommend him/her to change the lifestyle and eating habits. Foods that are rich in calcium and Vitamin D are prescribed in plenty, in order to make his bones grow stronger and healthier. Vitamin D supplements help in absorbing calcium and prevent fractures and cracks. So, on early detection of Osteoporosis, one needs to have an intake of foods that are rich in Vitamin D and Calcium as these help prevent any possible fractures in the later stages of his/her life.

If a person has been suffering from little to severe Osteoporosis and is diagnosed with bone loss and erosion of the bones near the joints, then it is high time for the person to get ongoing treatment to cure the bone disease. Doctors suggest him to get regular checkups and follow-up tests to periodically observe the changes and improvement in the strength of the bones and the mineral density in his bone tissues. Dietary changes, exercises – ranging from regular and moderate to intense and vigorous according to the amount of infection and risk involved are suggested.

Once the condition of the disease gets worse, more changes and prescriptions are given by the doctors. They also include the dietary conditions along with medicinal intake that help supply sufficient amount of nutrients and minerals in order to make the bones strong and healthy. Calcium, Iron, Manganese are few of the minerals and vitamins that would mostly be prescribed and suggested by the doctors in the foods that would be given to the person. There are other replacement therapies where the hormones and estrogens are replaced. Few surgical treatments also exist in order to make the bones at the joints stronger and medicinal intake is not sufficient enough.

Therefore, it is strongly recommended and suggested to include healthy diet and exercises in order to make the bones stronger and healthier and prevent any bone diseases in the future and later stages of life. Taking such precautions at early stages in the life makes one grow healthy and even while aging, have sufficient minerals and vitamins to keep the bones strong.
